It depends on the format of the source image and a few other factors.
- In Photoshop, color inversion is via
Image -> Adjustments -> Invert (Ctrl + I). - In GIMP, color inversion is via
Image -> Colors -> Invert. - In MSPAINT, color inversion is via
Ctrl + Shift + I.
